Duties: This will be a rewarding opportunity for college students, tutoring at a local middle school. The position involves working with students who have continually struggled with reading throughout their educational experience and need effective intervention to be successful in their learning. This position allows tutors to work with 7th and 8th grade students in small groups or one-on-one situations under the direct supervision of a teacher in order to help students in fundamental reading skills. The program stresses the need for improved site word recognition, enhanced oral reading fluency, and enrichment of reading comprehension strategies while using both fiction and non-fiction text, and development of the desire to read for pleasure to create life-long learners.
Requirements: Desire to work with middle school students.
