Service Programs at WSU Spokane
WSU Spokane houses and collaborates with service and outreach units that enrich the community; improve the quality of K–12 and post-secondary education; and foster partnerships with business, medical, and health industries—activities that promote growth throughout the Inland Northwest.

- Area Health Education Center (AHEC): AHEC acts as a bridge between the university and communities, serves rural and underserved areas by supporting health care systems and personnel needs, assists communities with health policy recommendations, and helps with the implementation of community-development programs.
- CityLab: WSU Spokane CityLab provides students and teachers with valuable experiences in biotechnology and related sciences and the benefits of inquiry-styled teaching, laboratory instruction, cutting-edge technology, and a strong mentoring system.
- Drug Information Center (DIC): DIC serves health care professionals by answering critical questions on drug use and its possible side effects, the only such source in Washington State.
- Hearing and Speech Clinic: The UPCD Clinic is dedicated to the treatment of conditions that limit one's ability to communicate freely. Services include screening, evaluation, and rehabilitation for a broad range of communication problems for people of all ages.
- Interdisciplinary Design Institute: At the Design Institute, students and faculty from architecture, interior design, and landscape architecture both collaborate with each other in advanced facilities and work closely with neighborhoods and communities to solve local problems.
- Center to Bridge the Digital Divide (CBDD): Through partnerships, education, and research and policy guidance, the CBDD strives to improve the technology infrastructures vital to underserved areas—both local and global.
- Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement (MESA): MESA provides African American, Latino/a, Native American, and female students with an awareness of the many career opportunities in the fields of mathematics, engineering, and science.
- Small Business Development Center: SBDC strives to promote economic vitality within Washington communities by providing expert business advising, demand-driven training, and applied research. It is increasingly recognized as a premier resource for business retention, expansion, and entrepreneurial development.
- Spokane County Extension: We build the Spokane County community through youth, family, and natural resource initiatives.
- Washington Institute for Mental Health Research Training (WIMHRT): WIMHRT conducts training, research, and clinical program development that directly benefits mentally ill individuals in Washington State.
- Washington State Institute for Community Oriented Policing (WSICOP): WSICOP serves as the vehicle for statewide implementation of community policing. It provides training programs to community members, government officials, and police officers and conducts research on the implementation and results of community-oriented policing.
- Western Regional Institute for Community Oriented Public Safety (WRICOPS): WRICOPS provides regional training, develops curriculum, and conducts on-site assessments. WRICOPS is a five-state partnership that involves criminal justice training commissions, peace officer standards and training organizations, police and sheriff associations, and universities.
