Service Programs at WSU Spokane
WSU Spokane houses and collaborates with service and outreach
units that enrich the community; improve the quality of K–12 and post-secondary
education; and foster partnerships with business, medical, and health
industries—activities that promote growth throughout the Inland Northwest.

- Area
Health Education Center (AHEC): AHEC acts as a bridge between the university and communities, serves rural
and underserved areas by supporting health care systems and personnel needs,
assists communities with health policy recommendations, and helps with the
implementation of community-development programs.
- CityLab: WSU Spokane
CityLab provides
students and teachers with valuable experiences in biotechnology and related
sciences and the benefits of inquiry-styled teaching, laboratory instruction,
cutting-edge technology, and a strong mentoring system.
- Drug Information Center
(DIC):
DIC serves health care professionals by answering critical questions
on drug use and its possible side effects, the only such source in
Washington State.

Hearing and Speech Clinic:
The UPCD Clinic is dedicated to the treatment of
conditions that limit one's ability to communicate freely. Services include
screening, evaluation, and rehabilitation for a broad range of communication
problems for people of all ages.
- Interdisciplinary Design
Institute: At the Design Institute, students and faculty from architecture, interior design, and
landscape architecture both collaborate with each other in advanced facilities
and work closely with neighborhoods and communities to solve local problems.
- Center to Bridge the Digital Divide
(CBDD):
Through partnerships, education, and research and policy guidance, the CBDD
strives to improve the technology infrastructures vital to underserved
areas—both local and global.
- Mathematics, Engineering,
Science Achievement (MESA):
MESA provides
African American, Latino/a, Native American, and female students with an awareness of the many career opportunities in the fields of
mathematics, engineering, and science.
- Small Business Development Center: SBDC strives to promote economic vitality within Washington communities by
providing expert business advising, demand-driven training, and applied
research. It is increasingly recognized as a premier resource for business
retention, expansion, and entrepreneurial development.
- Spokane County Extension:
We build the Spokane County community through youth, family, and natural
resource initiatives.
- Washington Institute for
Mental Health Research Training (WIMHRT): WIMHRT conducts training, research, and clinical program development that
directly benefits mentally ill individuals in Washington State.
- Washington State Institute
for Community Oriented Policing (WSICOP): WSICOP serves as the vehicle for statewide implementation of community policing.
It provides training programs to community members, government officials, and
police officers and conducts research on the implementation and results of
community-oriented policing.
- Western Regional Institute
for Community Oriented Public Safety (WRICOPS): WRICOPS provides regional training, develops curriculum, and conducts on-site
assessments. WRICOPS is a five-state partnership that involves criminal justice
training commissions, peace officer standards and training organizations, police
and sheriff associations, and universities.
