Description: Dr. Dyck's projects include work within the public mental health system to provide families with education and support to assist with the long-term management of persons with mental illness. The Multi-Family Psychoeducation, Burden and Health Project at Spokane Mental Health aims to reduce the incidence of relapse and hospitalization among mental health consumers with schizophrenia through involving their families in the management of the illness. This project has received grant funding from the National Institute of Mental Health. Dr. Dyck is conducting studies on alcohol dependence and substance abuse in persons with serious mental illness. His work includes a three-year study examining the cost effectiveness of various medications taken by persons suffering from schizophrenia. He is also an associate of WIMIRT (Washington Institute for Mental Illness Research and Training), which includes advising the State of Washington's Mental Health Division. Dr. Dyck served on an interdisciplinary group of WSU Spokane faculty who developed the Graduate Certificate in Aging.
