Health Careers and Pipeline Programs

Health Careers Ambassador Program
The goal of the Health Careers Ambassador Program
is to encourage more people to pursue health careers in rural areas by focusing on the
high school population and mid-career adults.
This program creates a coordinated effort
between local health care providers and schools to address health care issues and
opportunities in rural communities. The Ambassador program provides information,
experiences and opportunities for students in their local area by linking health care
professionals with students who have expressed an interest in medicine, nursing and allied
health professions.
Currently there are programs in 45 communities in eastern Washington.
This program works collaboratively with the Washington Academy of Family Physicians
Pipeline Program as well as the Western Washington AHEC Building Partnerships Program.
U-DOC Program
This is a four-week residential
program at Washington State University Pullman aimed at recruiting graduating high school students of color from
eastern Washington and Idaho.
The U-DOC
program is intended to foster, affirm and encourage high school students who possess an
interest in medical professions by allowing them to further explore medical and health
careers and to familiarize students with college experience.
The program was developed as
a collaboration between the AHEC and the WWAMI Medical Student Program at WSU/University
of Idaho and the University of Washington School of Medicine. WWAMI medical students are
involved as counselors for the U-DOC participants.
