About the University District

The University District is a City of Spokane planning area centered on the Riverpoint Campus on the south side of the Spokane River, and the Gonzaga University campus on the north side of the river.

The vision of the University District is for an exciting mixed-use 24/7 place to live, work, play, and learn. The city’s strategic master plan for the University District does not dictate specific land uses, projects, or tenants.

Bounded by Division Street on the west, Hamilton on the east, Sharp on the north, and I-90 on the south, the area includes both the Riverpoint Campus, home to Washington State University Spokane and programs of Eastern Washington University, and the Gonzaga University campus, as well as administrative offices of the Community Colleges of Spokane.

As the Riverpoint Campus develops and enrollment grows, and as Gonzaga University grows just across the river, demand for student and faculty housing and services will grow as well.

This creates opportunities for development in adjacent streets and stronger linkages to available services and entertainment venues in downtown, already undergoing its own renaissance. Over $2 billion of capital investment has gone into the downtown and University District area in the past few years.  Return to the Top of the Page
