This week’s feature: Cooperative Academic Library Services (CALS)
CALS serves as the library for the entire Riverpoint campus, offering 12,000 books, 5,000+ online periodical titles, 400 periodical titles, and optimized rapid document delivery for books and periodicals from other libraries at no cost to students, faculty or staff.
Find out what other services are available through your campus library by reading the attached fact sheet, provided by David Buxton, CALS director. Visit them online: www.cals.spokane.wsu.edu.
SCLS? That’s the Phase I Classroom Building, as listed in the course schedule. Wye-murt? That’s WIMIRT, the acronym for the Washington Institute for Mental Illness Research and Training? IDI? We don’t say that.
Learn more about WSU Spokane acronyms and standard treatment of campus and unit names from our campus style sheet (attached).
It’s also available online: www.spokane.wsu.edu/news&events/style_guide.asp (available by going to www.news.spokane.wsu.edu, clicking on the “for media” button, and choosing “Style Sheet” in the lefthand navigation bar).
Friday is the deadline to order your WSU Spokane embroidered polo and/or denim shirts. The polos are available in four different colors and range in price from $22 to $25.50. The long-sleeve denim shirts are available for $27 to $29. Contact Kaarin Appel at kappel@wsu.edu or 358-7528 to place your order.
Need a jumpstart for your day? Aracelia's, located in the Phase I Classroom Building Lobby near the auditorium, is now open from 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. They are serving coffee, juice, snacks, and lunch specials. Extended hours into the evening will begin on October 1.
Aracelia's second campus location will be opening in the lobby of the Health Sciences Building soon. Watch for more details.

Sixth Annual Community Design and Construction Charrette
“The Great Spokane River Gorge” project was subject of this year's Interdisciplinary Design Institute Charrette. A "charrette" is an intensive design process, named from the French word for "cart" because Parisian design students jumped on the cart that took their projects to be turned in so they could work on them up to the very last minute.
The Charrette received coverage on Tuesday, August 27 on KREM-TV and KHQ-TV’s 5 p.m. newscasts. The stories showed the design students walking around the Gorge Park for their site tour and explained the focus of the group project, which each year addresses a design issue of community interest. David Wang, associate professor of architecture and charrette organizer, was the focus of a KXLY News Radio 920 interview with Mark Peterson that same evening at 5:10 p.m. Media was generated by Communications Office follow-up and the press release (available online): http://wsunews.wsu.edu/detail.asp?StoryID=3205.
