NOTES FROM DEAN'S CABINET

Aug. 13, 2002 Dean's Cabinet topics of discussion included:

1.     Agenda for the campus fall kickoff to be held Aug. 22, 2002.

2.     Branch System Study Group: A draft report from Jim Zuiches, dean of the College of Agriculture and Home Economics and chair of the BSSG, has been presented to the college deans for discussion.

The report included summaries of the strategic plan priorities of Spokane, Tri-Cities, and Vancouver; identification of what currently works and what doesn't in the statewide university system; and identification of cross-cutting issues such as curriculum development that need to be addressed to facilitate growth of the three newer campuses.

A work group consisting of Jim Zuiches, Bill Gray, Larry James (WSU Tri-Cities campus dean), Hal Dengerink (WSU Vancouver campus dean), and Jane Sherman (associate vice provost for academic affairs) will develop the next version of this document for further discussion before decisions are made about potential changes to be implemented.

3.     MFC offices: Identification of appropriate space for administrative offices currently located downtown to move closer to campus is under way. Offices that will be affected: Dean's Office, Finance & Administration, Human Resources, Communications & Development, Small Business Development Center statewide office.

4.     Events parking: A reminder to those organizing and planning events and conferences on campus that you must plan and communicate parking guidelines as part of your event plan. The requirement for a parking pass is enforced at all campus events.

Options for you to facilitate parking pass use:
- Purchase visitor passes in advance ($1 each) and disseminate them to your attendees
- Leave a list of attendees and passes for them with Debra Myhre, campus receptionist, in the SIRTI building; inform attendees that they can make use of the 15-minute parking circle in front of SIRTI for ease of pick-up of their passes.
- Remind attendees to purchase passes from Parking Services in the basement of the Phase I Classroom Building.
- Remind attendees to make use of the metered parking on the street and in the parking lot.

To purchase passes, contact Teresa Kruger, Parking Operations, rpparking@wsu.edu, 368-6999.

5.     Discussion of ways to foster an inclusive and welcoming campus climate for both WSU Spokane and EWU students, staff, and faculty.

NEW HOME PAGE DESIGN GOES LIVE

If you haven’t looked lately at www.spokane.wsu.edu, it’s time to check it out. A whole new look went online Friday, Aug. 9.

Kudos to Denise Palmen, the College of Sciences graphic designer who created the new home page look for WSU Spokane.

Denise is currently housed in the Phase I Classroom Building in the Information Services area, working in Spokane while her husband finishes his PharmD studies. We have been lucky to be able to make some use of her talents in upgrading our web presentation.

Kudos also to campus webmaster Sicco Rood for the programming and additional design that made it all happen.

If you click the “refresh” button in your Internet browser, you’ll note that we have multiple pictures in rotation in the central image. We’ll be adding additional images to the rotation as we’re able to get good photography and complete the redesign of the program pages linked from the image. This will allow us to feature both some of our faculty and the unique features of our various programs--we'll mix the personal and the programmatic to provide variety.

The new web design continues to be rolled out. Program pages recently redesigned include:

Health Policy & Administration, www.hpa.spokane.wsu.edu

MS Architecture, www.msarch.spokane.wsu.edu

MS Architecture, Design-Build Management focus, www.designbuild.spokane.wsu.edu

MS Landscape Architecture, www.msla.spokane.wsu.edu

MA Interior Design, www.interiordesign.spokane.wsu.edu

B Architecture, www.spokane.wsu.edu/academic/design/Arch/architecture_overview.asp

BS Construction Management, www.spokane.wsu.edu/academic/design/constr_mgmt_overview.asp

BA Interior Design, www.BAinteriordesign.spokane.wsu.edu

More to come! You’ll also see the redesign already in place in the Library, Computer Services, Student Services, News & Events, the new Visitors page, and more.
