GET TO KNOW WSU SPOKANE
This week’s department overview feature: Associated Students of WSU Spokane (ASWSUS)
ASWSUS is responsible for representing WSU Spokane student interests, welfare, and needs to ASWSU. ASWSUS is charged with the responsibility of representing WSU Spokane students at large. Issues of student life, supplementation and complementation of the formal education are the main goals.
Activity Highlights
· The Winter Ball is a formal dance sponsored and organized by ASWSUS that is held every year in December. This year about 180 people attended. The ball is a community service event that Toys-For-Tots attends and accepts toys and gifts for local children in need.
· Cougar Pride Day. April 2nd. ASWSUS organized events and local businesses that are involved with livability and sustainability to be on campus. Events for the day included campus improvement from noon to 2 p.m., which consisted of improvement projects on campus and replanting trees. Refreshments and Cougar Pride buttons were handed out.
· Lobbied in Olympia to help limit state cuts to higher education. Involved with Washington Student Lobbyist.
· Hockey nights, Nascart and other small get-togethers are commonly held to ease students’ stress.
· Meetings are held bi-weekly. Students are encouraged to attend and lunch is provided.
· ASWSUS receives Services & Activity fees and manages them to provide services and activities that benefit students. They have contributed to activities such as Commencement and the Fall BBQ and have recently purchased recreational equipment and patio tables and chairs that are in front of the Phase I Classroom Building.
