JOIN US DOWNTOWN JULY 26 FOR ALL THAT JAZZ

Thursday is Jazz Night for the second Live After 5 in downtown Spokane. Listen to jazz vocalist Robin Marks perform from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on the WSU Spokane stage located in Riverfront Park. Then mosey on down to the Cricket main stage at Wall and Main for the sounds of Darren Motamedy from 7:00 to 9:00 pm.

Visit WSU Spokane representatives at our booth next to the main stage and see the fun you can have volunteering for the upcoming Live After 5 events on Thursday, August 23, and Friday, October 5. Volunteers will receive a free WSU Spokane shirt as well as live entertainment. In addition to live music, art exhibits and other fun activities are spread throughout downtown so bring a friend.

WSU SPOKANE ENGINEERING FACULTY RECEIVES NATIONAL SCIENCE FOUNDATION GRANT

Complex mathematical calculations will provide new diagnostic capabilities using existing medical equipment if a faculty member at Washington State University Spokane is successful in his research.

Paul Schimpf, associate professor of engineering at WSU Spokane, has received a $400,000 grant from the National Science Foundation to fund his pursuit of such demanding computational problems. See more online at http://www.wsu.edu/NIS/releases4/bc116.htm.

MEDIA COVERAGE

Bill Fassett, dean, college of pharmacy, was quoted in an article in Business Week, July 23, 2001, on the shortage of pharmacists. This coverage came as a result of his listing in the American Pharmaceutical Association's Media Contact Network.

An article on women in construction in the Moscow-Pullman Daily News, quotes Darlene Septelka, associate professor, construction management. The Seattle Daily Journal of Commerce also responded to the news tip and will be doing a story on the topic.

A story in the New York Times Daily News quotes John White, associate professor, pharmacy practice, on inhalant insulin. White is the co-author with R. Matt Nelson, a staff member in Facilities Operations, won the 25K (15.5 mile) Newman Lake Run on Sunday, July 15. He outran approximately 300 other participants to take the title.

Terri Levien, drug information specialist, Drug Information Center; and Danial Baker, professor of pharmacy practice and director, Drug Information Center, published: Formoterol.  Hospital Pharmacy 2001;36(7):753-65.
