Too often, the safety precautions that seem to be "common sense" can and do give way to our desires to complete a task, peer pressure, and our mental and physical state. That temporary loss of common sense can cause accidents. Accidents may also occur that are totally beyond our control—but they do require our coping skills and survival ability.
Supervisors, consider having a tailgate safety meeting with your staff where you list of what types of accidents they may be exposed to while on the job. For example:
Accidents You Can Control
- Cutting a finger with a knife
- Forgetting to set the brakes on a vehicle
Unforeseen Accidents
- Citywide power failure
- River over flows its bank and floods your work area
If you do not have a direct supervisor, evaluate your work area to gain knowledge regarding your own job safety.
Where does this lead us? To the establishment of possible safety and environmental concerns at your worksite. Look closely at the tasks you or your employees perform and determine what exposures or accidents could occur on the job.
This website aims to investigate workplace concerns, providing you with specific references that can help you solve a problem and place safety and environmental health as a priority at work and home.
