Threats, Bomb Threats, & Suspicious Objects
If you receive a threatening telephone call or letter, receive a suspicious parcel, or discover a suspicious object somewhere on the premises, please follow these procedures.
If you receive a telephone threat:
1. Remain calm.
2. Follow instructions on the Bomb Threat card kept beside your telephone.
3. Listen carefully. Be polite and show interest. Try to keep the caller talking, so that you can gather more information.
4. Trap the call.
- During the call, press the Transfer button and
- Dial (Pound/Star/120) #*120 (this will trap the call)
- After you hang up from the caller then
- Call the police at 911 immediately, and then call Campus
Safety/Security at 509.358.7995 to report the threat.
5. Complete the Bomb Threat card on both sides as quickly as possible.
6. Try to get the attention of other staff members to help you.
7. If evacuation is ordered, proceed to the emergency assembly location.
If you receive a written threat or suspicious parcel or if you find a suspicious object anywhere on the premises:
1. Keep anyone from handling it or going near it.
2. Notify Campus Safety/Security at 509.358.7995 immediately. Call 911 if you do not talk with Campus Safety/Security.
3. If evacuation is ordered, proceed to the emergency assembly location.
4. Promptly write down everything you can remember about receiving the letter or parcel or finding the object. This information will be needed by the police interviewers.
5. Remain calm. Do not discuss the threat with other staff members. Do not spread rumors.
6. Fill out an Incident Report form (S25.20.7) and forward it, within 24 hours, as directed. Obtain the report online or by calling 509.358.7994.
7. Immediately report accidents that result in death, serious injury (e.g., fracture, amputation) or in-patient hospitalization of WSU personnel or third parties. This applies to all personnel at the Riverpoint Campus, including WSU Spokane, EWU, Sirti, and Sirti tenants.
