Power Outage

If a power outage occurs:

  1. Notify Facilities Operations at 509.358.7994 immediately during business hours. Contact Campus Safety at 509.358.7995 after hours and on weekends and holidays. Tell us your location and any details regarding the outage. Indicate whether any critical equipment is in imminent danger. Campus Safety/Security will notify the appropriate people.
  2. If you are in an unlit area, proceed cautiously to an area that has emergency lights.
  3. Provide assistance to people in your immediate vicinity.
  4. Turn off computers or other electronic equipment at the power source.
  5. If you are in an elevator, stay calm. Attempt to use the emergency alarm and intercom to notify Public Safety. If the power outage has taken out the emergency power generator, remain calm. Help will come.
  6. Stand by for instructions from the Campus Safety/Security office. If instructed to evacuate, proceed to the appropriate emergency assembly location.
  7. Fill out an Incident Report form (S25.20.7) and forward it, within 24 hours, as directed. Obtain the report online or by calling 509.358.7994.
  8. Immediately report accidents that result in death, serious injury (e.g., fracture, amputation) or in-patient hospitalization of WSU personnel or third parties. This applies to all personnel at the Riverpoint Campus, including WSU Spokane, EWU, Sirti, and Sirti tenants.
