Chemical Spills and Chemical Fires

If a chemical spill occurs

1. If toxic chemicals come in contact with your skin, immediately flush the affected area with clean water for 15 minutes. Use chemical showers if available. Locations of chemical showers and eye wash stations:

2. If possible, have someone call 911 IMMEDIATELY, and then call Campus Safety/Security at 509.358.7995.

3. If there is any possible danger, evacuate your area.

4. Notify your supervisor of the extent and location of the spill, if possible.

If a chemical fire occurs:

1. If possible, have someone call 911 IMMEDIATELY, and then call Campus Safety/Security at 509.358.7995.

2. Do not attempt to save possessions at the risk of personal injury.

3. Do not return to the emergency area until instructed to do so by a Campus Safety/Security official.

4. Fill out an Incident Report form (S25.20.7) and forward it, within 24 hours, as directed.

5. Obtain the report online or by calling 509.358.7994.

6. Immediately report accidents that result in death, serious injury (e.g., fracture, amputation) or in-patient hospitalization of WSU personnel or third parties. This applies to all personnel at the Riverpoint Campus, including WSU Spokane, EWU, Sirti, and Sirti tenants.
