As of fall 2008, the decision has been made to discontinue the Bachelor of Arts in Leadership and Professional Studies.
This decision was not driven by concern for the quality of the degree, but rather by the need to shift resources to areas that have a greater potential for growth on the Spokane campus, particularly in the health and biomedical sciences. Current students will be allowed to complete the degree if they remain continuously registered for the next four semesters through Spring 2010, but no new students are being admitted.

What you'll study
The interdisciplinary core curriculum prepares you for work in professional settings through a focus on leadership from liberal arts perspective. In the leadership courses, for example, you'll cover topics like:
- Defining self in terms of leadership, including a renewal of personal abilities.
- Authenticity and credibility in leadership.
- Ordinary people leading in the real world.
- Raising trust, resolving conflicts, and achieving workable unity.
- Affirming ideas, encouraging positive values, and motivating others.
- Leadership as responsible citizenship.
A supervised, professional internship—tailored to your career goals—supplies the capstone course for this degree program. This internship may be completed in the Spokane metropolitan area, or at any approved training site in the United States or abroad.
Value of the program
"I have been delighted at the personal renewal I have experienced through this thoughtfully developed program. The social science classes are contemporary and deal with real social and workplace issues, as well the larger social contexts in which we all must operate, whether we acknowledge it or not.
The liberal arts approach to leadership training is far more beneficial for developing the critical thinking skills necessary to lead teams and organizations through a constantly changing work environment than the more traditional management training I have received in the past.
The blending of social sciences and leadership topics is giving me a more coherent view of the world in general, helping me to use my natural talents more effectively and mitigating my weaknesses, building my confidence and creativity, and making me more useful to my organization and more effective with my staff and the public."
