WSU College of Education programs available on the Spokane campus focus on preparing educators for professional advancement and opening the world of teaching to people seeking to change their careers. Degree programs available in Spokane
WSU Spokane, in collaboration with the WSU Pullman College of Education, is pleased to offer two Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) degrees that may be completed through coursework substantially taken in Spokane.
Doctor of Education (Ed.D.), Educational Leadership
Cohort based program designed around the theme of leadership for school improvement. Seventy-two graduate credits, available statewide on all four WSU campuses. Classes offered to meet the schedules of working practitioners, with two-week summer institutes on the Pullman campus.
Doctor of Education (Ed.D.), Teacher Leadership
Designed for K-12 eduators with a strong desire to collaborate around the complexities of practice. Seventy-two graduate credits available on four WSU campuses. Classes offered to meet the schedules of working practitioners, with two-week summer institutes on the Pullman campus.
Master of Education, Curriculum and Instruction
Designed for current educators who wish to extend their knowledge and skills in education. Thirty-five graduate credits with classes offered to meet the schedules of working practitioners. C&I specialization may include coursework from the WSU ProCert for Teachers program, and/or from endorsement programs including Reading, Middle Level Math, Special Education and English Language Learners.
Master of Education, Educational Leadership
Designed for current educators who wish to pursue careers in leadership positions in the educaiton setting. Thirty-five graduate credits with classes offered to meet the schedules of working practitioners. Ed Leadership speciaalization may include coursework from the principal and program administrator programs.
Master in Teaching
The MIT program is for an individual who holds a baccalaureate degree in a field other than education and who wants to become a teacher. The degree is available through a full-time, cohort-based program.
Certificate programs available in Spokane
Field-Based Principal's Certification Program
WSU Spokane offers a comprehensive two-year, cohort-based principal certification program designed to prepare currently successful educators to meet the leadership challenges which will be faced by school principals in the coming decades.
Field-Based Superintendent's Certification Program
WSU offers a statewide two-year, field-based superintendent certification program designed to prepare currently successful school principals to meet the leadership challenges which will be faced by school superintendents in the coming decades.
Field-Based Program Administrator Certificate
WSU Spokane offers a comprehensive two-year, cohort-based program administrator certification program designed to prepare currently successful educators to meet the leadership challenges which will be faced by school administrators in the coming decades.
Professional Certificate Program
The WSU Professional Certification Program (Pro Cert) strives to provide a quality personal and professional growth experience that builds on a solid base of knowledge and experience. The Pro Cert program may be taken alone, or as part of a comprehensive master's degree in curriculum and instruction.
Endorsement programs available in Spokane
English Language Learners — Online through WSU Distance Degree Programs
The endorsement is added to an existing valid teaching certificate. The ELL Endorsement consists of 18 semester hours, including a practicum in your linguistically diverse educational setting. Coursework for the ELL Endorsement may be applied to the C&I master's degree on the Spokane campus.
Middle Level Math Endorsement
The add-on endorsement program is designed for new and experienced teachers who wish to add additional endorsement or expertise in middle level mathematics to their current certification. Some coursework for the Middle Level Math Endorsement may be applied to the C&I master's degree on the Spokane campus.
Reading Endorsement
The Reading Endorsement provides the skills and strategies necessary for those who wish to increase dramatically their knowledge of the teaching of reading. Candidates must complete 13 credits (in addition to meeting program prerequisites) and pass the WEST-E assessment. Reading endorsement courses may be applied to the C&I master's degree on the Spokane campus.
Special Education — Online, and AMS Videoconference instruction
Includes 31 semester credits and provides the skills and knowledge required for those who want to teach students with special needs at grades P-12. Graduate courses for the endorsement may be applied to the C&I master's degree on the Spokane campus.
Pathway 2 Endorsements
Pathway 2 involves passing the WEST-E and a college-administered pedagogy assessment in the endorsement being added.
