Apply to WWAMI Spokane

Application process

  • All students apply through the University of Washington School of Medicine.
  • Targeted Rural and Underserved Track (TRUST), is designed to connect students who have interest in rural and underserved practice with training sites, mentors and residency programs.  TRUST participation begins upon matriculation with a clinical observation experience prior to the start of 1st year didactics and continues through residency match.  Additional application required.  

Spokane Admission Interviews

  • UWSOM Admissions interviews will be available to students applying to the Washington TRUST program or who wish to interview in Spokane for the first time in February, 2010.

First year—Spokane

  • Upon acceptance, WWAMI Spokane students complete their first year of medical school at Washington State University in Spokane, Washington.
  • The first year of training includes courses in basic sciences, as well as an introduction to clinical medicine.

Second year

  • Students from all five WWAMI states attend second-year courses at the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle.

Third & fourth years

Clerkships—rotations in medical specialties—make up the third and fourth years of medical school curriculum. During 3rd year of medical school, students can apply to participate in the following training experiences:

  • Spokane TRACK

Students train within the Spokane medical community where they will complete at minimum five of the six required third year clerkships allowing for continuity of residence and training locale.  In addition, all 4th year required clerkships are available in Spokane.

  • WRITE (WWAMI Rural Integrated Training Experience)

The WRITE Program is designed to give selected third-year medical students an appropriate mix of ambulatory and hospital experience during a 20-week clinical education experience at a rural primary care teaching site.  Fulfillment of Family Medicine and a portion of the Medicine, Pediatrics and Psychiatry clerkship requirements will be accomplished during the 20 weeks.  http://depts.washington.edu/write/index.html
