The Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture, within the College of Agriculture and Home Economics on the WSU Pullman campus, serves as the academic home for the landscape architecture programs offered at the Design Institute.

Undergraduate studies in landscape architecture begin with the first through third years of the program at the Pullman campus. Students spend the entire fourth year of the program at the Interdisciplinary Design Institute at WSU Spokane and choose to complete their fifth year in either Spokane or Pullman.

The graduate program is offered in Pullman and Spokane based on the background of the applicant and the intended focus of research.
