Degree Programs
BA in Interior
Design
The Washington State
University interior design program offers a balanced approach in
interior design with exposure to art, architecture, and humanities.
Students
begin the program at WSU Pullman or articulate from
Spokane Falls
Community College or
Bellevue Community
College, then spend the
third and/or fourth year at the Interdisciplinary Design Institute where they
participate in an interdisciplinary design studio experience.
MA
in Interior Design
The Master of Arts program
combines studio design experiences with qualitative and quantitative
research methodologies to explore the interface between human
behavior and interior environments, to examine design theories, and
to experiment in design technology. The
MA degree requires a minimum of 30 credits, including the completion
of a research thesis or project, and is offered in a two-year and a three-year
option.
The two-year option is for students who have an
undergraduate degree in interior design and are prepared to pursue
graduate level studies in interior design.
The three-year
option requires that students without a background in interior
design take a series of undergraduate courses that
"immerse" them in the major. At the same time, students
are introduced to graduate level courses such as Design Theory,
Readings, Research Methods, and
Interdisciplinary Seminar.
The three-year
program is designed to accelerate a student towards meeting
professional standards and then to challenge the student beyond
those standards in terms of research and critical thinking.
Articulated
BA/MA (4+1) Option
Qualified
students may choose to enter the articulated BA/MA degree program
within the senior year that leads to a master's degree completed in
the first year of graduate study.
The
BA/MA degree is non-thesis and the culmination of the degree is a
design project.
Students in the BA/MA program are required to complete a
design project in consultation with their assigned graduate
committee.
