Providing Medical Education throughout the Northwest
Job posting: Research Technologist 2 (go to "search positions" on left side bar; look up by "Spokane").
WWAMI is an enduring partnership between the University of Washington School of Medicine and the states of Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho. It makes medical education accessible to Northwest students through decentralizing education and sharing existing facilities and personnel.
Rare Opportunities
Our program offers a unique opportunity in medical education: In your first year, you'll enjoy a small class size that fosters both close student–teacher interaction and student camaraderie
Small classes mean that our curriculum can support significant clinical experience. After your first year of medical school, you will be well ahead of your peers in clinical work and patient contact.
The WWAMI Program in Spokane
In April 2007, the Washington Legislature approved funding for a new WWAMI site at WSU Spokane. The first class of 20 first year medical students will begin in August 2008.
The program will be coordinated with the Regional Initiative in Dental Education (RIDE) Dental Program, providing a unique interdisciplinary training opportunity.
The first year WWAMI program will work closely with the WWAMI Clinical Education program at Spokane, and eventually both programs will be located at the WSU Riverpoint campus.
Why Spokane?
Spokane, Washington, provides an especially rich training ground for first-year medical students. In this major regional medical hub, students benefit from a lower student-to-faculty ratio. Close interaction with faculty and attending physicians allows students to have a more tailored education, as well as more hands-on experience.
A consortium of hospitals, community health centers, six residency programs, and other allied health programs create in Spokane a sophisticated, integrated medical community. Training in Spokane can show real-life medicine at its best.
