History of WWAMI Spokane
The WWAMI program came about in 1972 as a partnership between the University of Washington School of Medicine and the states of Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho to fight a growing shortage of physicians in those areas without medical education programs. With the growing physician disparity in Eastern Washington, the WWAMI program was expanded to include WSU-Spokane as a new site in 2008. Alongside the expansion of the medical program, RIDE, an extension of the University of Washington School of Dentistry was brought to the Riverpoint campus.
WWAMI Spokane students enjoy:
- A campus environment focused on health sciences and professions
- The camaraderie and low student-to-faculty ratio that comes with a class of 20 students
- Close interaction with faculty and attending physicians
- More clinical hours than students in similar program
- Brand new facilities and technology to enhance the educational exerience
