Master of Arts in Interior Design
The MA combines studio design experience with research to further understanding of the interaction between human behavior and interior environments. The program builds on the studio design experience to expand students' knowledge of the theoretical and analytical frameworks applicable to the pursuit of discovery in the field.
The MA also provides a strong interdisciplinary knowledge and practice background for those working toward a PhD or Doctor of Design.

The goals of the MA degree are:
- To provide students with opportunities to explore advanced design theories, problem-solving techniques, methodologies, and individual research and design applications;
- To provide students with opportunities for interdisciplinary exchange through the core curriculum at the Interdisciplinary Design Institute;
- To advance the body of knowledge pertaining to interior design and the built and natural environments;
- To prepare graduates to pursue careers as interior design educators, directors of interior design research, and practitioners of interior design.
Two-year option
This option provides students already possessing an undergraduate degree in interior design (or a related field), the opportunity to pursue advanced research and inquiry into a certain topic area through the completion of a research thesis.
Three-year option
This option is geared towards students who have earned a bachelor's degree in a field other than design. Through an accelerated three-year course of study, students are introduced to interior design foundation courses, advanced studios and graduate research courses, with the culmination of the degree being a research project.
Summer Studio
All students accepted to the three-year program will be required to enroll in a summer (June and July) immersion studio prior to entering the first fall semester.
