Graduate Program in

Criminal Justice

Message from the Director

Welcome to the Criminal Justice Program at WSU Spokane. Our program’s mission is to foster the development of sophisticated analytical and evaluation skills, involving the theoretical, conceptual, and practical aptitudes necessary to occupy leadership roles in research, planning, and administration in the criminal justice system in the 21st century. While primarily theory driven, we provide students with the opportunity to take a number of courses that focus on applied skills such as GIS, program evaluation, public administration, and technical writing. For MA students interested in pursing a doctoral degree, the program prepares students for doctoral study within our department at WSU, or at other universities across the nation.

Being located on WSU’s Riverpoint Campus facilitates our ability to uniquely fulfill our mission. Our location in Spokane provides students and faculty alike with a real world, urban laboratory for both applied and theoretical research involving the criminal justice system. Additionally, as the Criminal Justice Program in Spokane serves only masters and doctoral students, faculty have the time to focus on teaching in small seminar settings, and providing the one on one mentoring that is a critical part of the graduate education experience.

I encourage you to visit our department either in person or via this web site to learn more about our curriculum, research activities, and most importantly, our faculty and students. If you have questions, I would be happy to speak with you on the phone at 509.358.7952 or through e-mail at brody@wsu.edu.
