Admission requirements

A Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent;

An undergraduate grade point average of at least 3.0 from the last 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) or a graduate GPA of at least 3.30 for 12 semester credit hours at a recognized graduate school;

Satisfactory scores on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE);

For students entering from a foreign university, evidence of English proficiency (i.e., Test of English as a Foreign Language) and financial resources.
Application procedures
Submit your application by January 10th (for summer or fall enrollment) or July 1st (for spring enrollment) to ensure priority consideration. Submit application materials to the Washington State University Graduate School:

You will receive email confirmation from the Department upon receipt of each item submitted as part of your application. Your application will be reviewed and the admission decision made upon receipt of all application materials. Admission standards conform to the requirements of the WSU Graduate School.
A complete file contains

A complete application, including $50 application fee. Apply on-line—be sure to indicate "Spokane campus" on your application.

A letter of intent and introduction, outlining areas of interest in Criminal Justice, career objectives, and any academic or professional experiences that recommend you as an applicant.

Three original letters of recommendation from persons qualified to speak to your academic qualifications and potential. References will be contacted automatically through the online application system and asked to submit a recommendation form electronically. These letters are used to help assess the quality of your academic and work experiences.

Official copies of transcripts (including all colleges or universities from which you have earned or expect to earn a degree, and all colleges or universities at which you have taken graduate level course work; transcripts for coursework taken at Washington State University are not required). Official transcripts are those mailed directly from the registrar of the institution(s) you attended.

Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores submitted to WSU. Scores must be less than five years old.

When taking the GRE, indicate Washington State University as a score recipient. WSU school code is 4705; there is no department code. If you did not indicate WSU when you took the test, you will need to contact ETS to request a score report be sent to WSU. To request additional GRE score reports, call: 1.888.473.7267.
